SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Geospatial Analyst – Cartographer will produce and maintain daily, weekly, and specialty maps as required using feature and/or terrain data from a variety of government and open sources.  This position will require open source research and collaboration amongst multiple teammates to fully prepare the maps for our clients.  The maps will be produced in accordance with cartographic standards utilizing customer based templates using semi-automated processes. The candidate will possess strong technical skills, having the ability to troubleshoot software and data management issues.  This position also requires coordination with our customer on a daily basis ensuring the most current data is vetted and incorporated onto the maps.  This position will lead efforts to build geospatial analysis and spatial analysis products and solutions as part of the cartographic product line.  The Geospatial Analyst – Cartographer is proficient with the tools needed to complete assigned tasks and demonstrates a willingness to improve their workflow and quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following:

  • Monitoring/engage in conversation on social media site (Slack) for group discussions, questions, feedback, daily/weekly reporting and tasking.
  • Produce and/or assist with production of daily, weekly, and specialty maps/graphics required or requested by the team or customer to include, but no limited to, Violations by Neighborhood chloropleth maps; Custom graphics showing territory control change; Hot spot analysis maps; Info-graphics and Temporal Change graphics.
  • Build, maintain and improve an AOI specific and/or a country-wide designated database of Violations; Notable Events; Check points; Territory Control; Heavy Military Equipment, as well as production on a strict daily schedule.
  • Understands cartographic processes and workflows to create map packages, as necessary, for data and *.mxd templates and provide them to team members when requested.
  • Improve cartographic aesthetics periodically to prevent stagnation of product.
  • Maintain, support and integrate all maps, graphics, daily/weekly reports, etc. related to the project into the Web Portal, ArcGIS Online sharing service (extensive knowledge of ArcGIS Server/Citrix environment/Map publishing practices.
  • Conduct daily, and as necessary, meetings with team to address successes, areas of improvement and disseminate information.
  • Work with DBAs to automate processes and ensure that automation is updated as necessary.
  • Act as the POC and outward face for CMC for all technical and resource based questions from internal/external team members as well as customers in a timely manner.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS building cartographic products
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design in building cartographic products.
  • Demonstrated ability to use ArcGIS analysis tools to supplement custom cartographic production and data/spatial analytics
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated technical capability to create custom and template-based cartographic products using semi- and automated processes in a timely manner on demand at customer’s request
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment or independently, as needed
  • Knowledge of various database formats and schemas, as well as, database management techniques used to improve, amend, and streamline geodatabase outputs for single or multi-user product development
  • Knowledge of different geospatial analysis techniques used to derive visual and/or table-based metrics showing temporal and/or spatial changes and impacts to related environments and datasets
  • Outstanding organizational skills; strong ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines; high level of personal initiative and follow-through.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and respond to problems as they occur with diplomacy, common sense, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, recognizing problems and finding solutions

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (four years). The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant skill experience including the following: knowledge and experience with digital cartography/GIS, image processing, and computer technology; knowledge of geographical information systems, geospatial production techniques, and digital data formats; knowledge of and experience with GIS commercial-off the-shelf applications software, particularly ESRI ArcGIS.Preferred candidates will have experience with ERDAS Imagine/LPS, SOCET SET, etc.
