Job Description:
Marquette County, Wisconsin, is accepting applications for an Infrastructure Support Specialist to work in our MIS Department and in support of our GIS system in Land Information. The GIS Specialist maintains the County Geographic Information System (GIS) using E.S.R.I. and related software. The GIS Specialist acts as the County’s lead technical person in the area of GIS and related systems. This combined position provides software and computer support for numerous county departments and support functions for county computer networks and networking equipment, handling county web sites, phone systems, and other equipment as well as maintaining the County Geographic Information System (GIS) using ESRI software (ArcGIS 10.3.1, Arc Server 10.3.1). Also provides occasional off hours and weekend support.
Education & Experience:
- Degree from an accredited college or tech school in Information Technology; and a degree in geography, computer aided mapping, surveying, or related field.
- 2 years of recent work experience including network administration and support; server administration and support; and PC setup and support or a combination of experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
- 2 years of experience in Cisco switching/VPN environment or CCNA certification.
- 3 years of experience in Microsoft environment or MCSA/MCSE certification.
- 4 years of experience with GIS using ESRI software, SQL and SQL server and various databases.
- Knowledge of coordinate systems the PLSS, legal descriptions, GPS and aerial photography.
- Designs, installs and configures Cisco switched environment: switches, routers, firewalls, VPN.
- Trouble shoots, maintains, and supports networking infrastructure and Microsoft Domain environment.
- Configures and supports firewalls to maintain network security.
- Configures, trouble shoots, and supports server hardware and software applications.
- Installs, configures, and supports personal computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Administers user accounts and access to servers; data, email, remote access; maintains user databases.
- Consults with end users regarding software needs and problems. Implements and tests software modifications and applications. Instructs users on modifications and applications.
- Runs and connects network cables, printers and other peripheral equipment and devices.
- Works with end users in maintaining the security and integrity of information stored within system files.
- Provides technical and analytical assistance to users in the identification and solution of data communication, Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, Mainframe, Servers, and PC problems.
- Implements data backup and restoration procedures for networks and mainframe computer.
- Maintains knowledge of current information technology developments.
- Consult with third party venders regarding installation, configuration, and maintenance of county servers.
- Maintenance of Microsoft Server and all Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Maintains email encryption appliance for county’s email system.
- Maintains and monitors remote access security and programs for Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.
- Manages and maintains wireless network equipment and access for staff.
- Maintains County GIS system and databases, which includes correcting errors and performing updates to the system as technology advances.
- Assists Senior GIS Specialist with providing data to the State as outlined in the County Land Records Modernization Plan and in the format required under the Statewide Parcel Map Initiative. This includes data for all municipalities within the county to the U.S. Census Bureau for the County Boundary and Annexation Survey (CBAS) and the State Department of Public Instruction on a regular basis.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance to other Departments in purchasing and using software to ensure compatibility with the County GIS system.
- Provide technical assistance to the Director on GIS software needs for the Department.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Management Information Systems Director.
