Job Description

Research, design, and create geospatial applications and Story Maps using ArcGIS Online (AGOL). 

  • The candidate shall prepare, convert, and standardize geospatial data by utilizing ESRI’s ArcGIS software to perform various geoprocessing tasks including; data analysis, data schema creation, model development, spatial data organization, spatial data editing, map development and map interpretation. 
  • The candidate shall create templates, processes, and methods for the standardized utilization of ArcGIS Online and ESRI Story Maps. This shall include following USGS policies and standards such as the USGS Visual Identity, publishing standards, and USGS scientific information and data integrity standards as specified by USGS policy and memoranda. 
  • The candidate shall produce geospatial mapping products and applications using the ArcGIS suite of software, ArcGIS Online, Web App Builder, and Story Maps. 
  • The candidate shall work with USGS scientists to educate, train, and assist them with their use and implementation of ArcGIS Online and the use of Story Maps. 

 Technical Writing 

  • The candidate shall prepare and edit scientific text for use in Story Map products. 
  • The candidate shall document standard techniques and methods used in the development of geospatial products.

 Website Development 

  • The candidate shall create and edit standardized web page templates. 
  • The candidate shall assist with website design, development, and maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in this area of specialty and/or equivalent minimal experience of 2+ years in the GIS field
  • Demonstrated GIS and geospatial experience
  • Utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location.
  • Working understanding of GIS software and how to use analysis methods to arrive at results.
  • Working understanding ArcGIS suite of software, ArcGIS Online, Web App Builder, and Story Maps.
  • Has working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Travel 
    • Domestic Travel may be required
    • A driver’s license will be required for local travel via automobile
