Position Summary
The Siting and Land Rights department at Xcel Energy is seeking a part time Geospatial intern. The successful candidate will assist in legal description mapping, data creation and preparation for utility features, suitability modeling and site location analysis along with database maintenance.
Essential Functions
• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects
• Translate legal land descriptions and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data to cartographic representations
• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures
Requirements
- Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography; undergraduates only
- UW Eau Claire students strongly preferred
- Completion of GIS II or an equivalent course
- Experience producing maps using ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator and other mapping-related software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Reliable and able to prioritize and work independently
- Ability to work at least part time in the summer AND during the semester
