Job Description

RTC seeks a 1 year, term-hire, Project Manager, for the Route of the Badger, a project that offers a vision of healthy, thriving communities in Southeast Wisconsin centered around a world-class regional trail system that connects people across neighborhoods, towns and counties.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • The Project Manager (PM) will lead the continued development of the Route of the Badger Partner Network, including staffing emerging working-group committees. The PM will establish a strategic planning process to guide the work of the coalition as a key task of 2017. This will include a thorough trail network assessment and gap identification process leading to a gap filling strategy.
  • The PM will be responsible for ongoing field work and outreach in gathering GIS data and current conditions of trail and other bike infrastructure; as well as identifying gaps in RTC’s list of contacts and stakeholders and cultivating appropriate partners to fill in those gaps will be important, especially as they relate to economic development, tourism, elected officials and public health.
  • The PM will lead continued discussions with SEWRPC and partners to develop and deploy a regional trail user count strategy.
  • With the completed low-stress bicycle connectivity analysis as the backbone, the PM will work to research and communicate social-equity challenges and opportunities within the current and future trail network in the City of Milwaukee.
  • Working with the RTC’s Racine County Consultant Ambassador, the PM will help with efforts to secure the Canadian Pacific corridor in Racine County for future trail development.
  • The PM will lead further exploration of opportunities along the 30 th street corridor in Milwaukee for trail development.
  • In concert with RTC’s communication staff the PM will participate in creating a communication plan for the project.

The duties of this position demand an experienced self-starter with excellent skills in building and maintaining collaborative and strategic relationships with RTC staff, project stakeholders, and other transportation, planning, recreation, conservation, economic development, health, corporate and community-based organizations. The successful candidate will be organized, proactive and efficient, and able to consistently deliver professional quality work on time and on budget. A strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple tasks and a widely varied workload is necessary. Sufficient experience with computer technology (Office suite, doodle, basic GIS, etc.) and the willingness to learn new skills are a must. 

Job Location

The position will be part time from home, part time from a shared office in Milwaukee.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a BS/BA degree and a proven track record within one or more of the following areas of work: trail planning; bike-ped planning; urban planning; landscape architecture; public administration; natural resource planning; or nonprofit management.
