2017 Internship Opportunity – Economic Development and GIS

Madison Region Economic Partnership (MadREP) seeks a dedicated individual with an interest in regional economic development, research, and GIS mapping to fill a part-time internship position. Interested individuals should be available to work approximately 12-20 hours per week, although specific times of day during the week can be flexible.

Job Responsibilities May Include:

• Research, gather, compile and update data related to regional industry target clusters: agriculture food and beverage manufacturing, biotech/life science/medical devices, advanced/precision manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare
• Use ArcGIS to demonstrate spatial relationships among economic and market data, and maintain related resource data and information bases
• Assist in the creation of marketing collateral based on research
• Research and update information for Capital Connections Inventory (a database of financial tools for businesses and economic development projects in the Madison Region)
• Update internal database and web-based applications that outline industrial, business, commerce and research & development parks throughout the region
• Create database of strategic buildings (based upon size, amenities, location) and sites (certified, shovel ready, gold shovel, tax incremental districts) that are key marketing assets for industry sectors of importance throughout the region
• Help facilitate agendas and compile meeting minutes for MadREP Steering Committees overseeing Innovation & Entrepreneurship and International activities
• Federal and State grant administration, compliance data monitoring, progress reports, and other related processes.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements: Ideal applicants will be pursuing a degree in a related field; coursework and/or experience in economic development, planning, GIS systems, research, finance, and/or business is considered a plus. Strong applicants will possess research, MS Excel, database, communication, GIS mapping, writing and internet skills. Must be task oriented, able to work independently as well as work in a larger collaborative work environment. Familiarity and competence in using ArcGIS Desktop required, Adobe Creative Suite skills are a plus.

An hourly wage will be paid for this intern position, depending upon experience and skills.
