Overview:
Connexus Energy is a progressive company that provides electric service to customers in a 7-county area north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. We are seeking detail-oriented individual to assist our Geospatial Services group in creating, preparing and maintaining GIS layers, applications, and data sets. This position will help ensure that accurate data feeds into the Design and Outage Management Systems used by the Electric Operations division.The internship is a temporary position requiring full-time hours during the summer with the possibility of part-time hours during the school year.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Acquire most current third-party landbase data from government entities, other utilities, etc.
- Coordinate update schedule with necessary users so as not to interfere with existing design projects
- Reproject and insert new landbase data into existing Connexus landbase datasets
- Reposition Connexus electrical features to appropriately fit with newly updated landbase
- Track work completed and document any issues
Required Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working toward a 2-4 year degree in GISGeography, engineering, surveying, or related field
- GIS/Geography, engineering or surveying related course work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing
- Ability to listen and understand information being communicated
- Ability to read, understand and follow written work documents
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to arrive at logical answers
- Ability to research easement documentation records
- Ability to interact well with all people
Preferred Talents, Skills, Expertise, Education:
- Hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.x software
- Basic knowledge of cartographic principles including use of projections
