Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Land Information Director and the Land Information Council, performs various duties related to the development and maintenance of the County’s Geographic Information System, including geodatabase development, database creation, quality control and output.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development, maintenance, coordination and support of the County’s Geographic/Land Information System to advance the goals of the County’s Land Records Modernization Plan. This includes digital map production and database activities that support base, zoning, natural resources, census, and other relevant geographic data. 
  • Prepare digital data request for consultants and the general public. 
  • Maintain all digital and hardcopy town zoning maps for town government officials, public access terminal as well as daily interoffice use. 
  • Create other digital and hardcopy maps for other government offices both within and outside the county to support daily office functions, public hearing meetings and other governmental meetings. 
  • Researches and obtains source documents necessary to accurately develop geographic and analytical data.  Obtaining this documentation through significant interaction with various county, state and federal agencies. 
  • Create daily customized mapping products utilizing cartographic skills to portray data in an understandable format for the general public, interoffice use and other government offices both within and outside Fond du Lac County. (orthophotos, site plans, etc.). 
  • Consults with Information Systems staff to utilize/manipulate information currently stored in SQL databases. 
  • Prepare and maintain user and system documentation for data acquisition and processing to include metadata development for all coverages/geodatabases. 
  • Stays current with trends and developments in GIS software in order to remain current with changes and growth of GIS through membership with WLIA (Wisconsin Land Information Association), and specialized GIS training as necessary. 
  • Assist general public and office personnel with accessing land records information, through public access terminal and other data acquisition methods through GIS software. 
  • Analyzes data, prepares reports, memoranda and correspondence. 
  • Serves as resource and advisory staff person to the Land Information Council.    

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Geographic Information Systems, geography, computer science or urban and regional planning, plus a minimum of two years experience with Geographic Information Systems, ESRI software is desirable. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) and cartographic principles and techniques, and ESRI software.  Extensive working knowledge of GIS methods and procedures for input, processing output, and development of applications.  Ability to work independently with minimal direction, ability to pay close attention to detail and to interact effectively with the general public and office staff.
