As an Application Support Analyst with Minnesota IT Services @ the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, you will provide support, and training to foresters across the State of Minnesota in the correct use of the Forestry Division’s tools and processes.

This position gives a forester with an interest in technology designed for forestry management an excellent opportunity to help further the mission of the division as we work towards an integrated tools environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.
  • This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of practical forestry experience, technical support aptitude, and training ability.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for two years of experience, or a related Associate’s may substitute for one year.

Experience must include the following:

  • ESRI ArcGIS or other Geospatial software.
  • Understanding of GIS principles and use of associated tools (e.g. GPS, Survey tools).
  • Use of Microsoft Office 2010 or above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Presentation and writing skills sufficient to train users on Forestry GIS tools.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or Information Technology.
  • Advanced GIS skills (e.g. Model builder, AddIns, Leaflet, Google Maps, Google Earth).
  • Experience supporting remote customers using Microsoft Remote Assistance, Microsoft Skype, or Bomgar.
  • Write simple SQL queries.
  • Write simple automation scripts using Python.
  • Maintain lists in SharePoint.
  • Two years’ experience working as a field forester and an aptitude for technology support.
  • Experience drafting user guides, tip sheets, or other end user documentation.
  • Experience working with meta-data in a data governance framework.
  • Effective communication with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Knowledgeable in commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures for end-user technical support.
  • In depth knowledge of the mission, responsibilities, organizational structure of the DNR Division of Forestry.
  • Aptitude with technical hardware (e.g. Tablets, GPS, Juno, Trimble).
  • Minor in computer science or related technical field.
