Job Summary:

As part of an ongoing US State Department funded project, the Afghanistan Mapping Partnership, we invite applications for a full-time Project Manager Heritage Analyst. The position requires a PhD. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field and experience in archaeological applications of Geographical Information Systems and geospatial database management. The ideal candidate will have experience both with the management of vector geospatial databases (in ESRI’s ArcGIS suite) and the interpretation of historical and modern satellite imagery (in ArcGIS and other software packages) for archaeology and cultural heritage projects in the Mediterranean, Near East, or Central Asia. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Working with a variety of historical and modern maps, gazetteers, and imagery to inventory known and previously unmapped archaeological sites, 
  • Working with modern imagery to identify trends in archaeological site preservation/destruction, 
  • Daily supervision of a team of undergraduate an graduate students working with GIS on various components of the grant project. 

Education & Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in a field of study relevant to the research being conducted required.  
  • A minimum of three years of related experience required. 
  • Experience working on Afghan heritage desirable. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
