Job Summary & Responsibilities:

This position will support Minnesota’s Statewide Trauma System by using geospatial principles and software to describe the triage and transportation patterns of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies responding to traumatic incidents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop statewide trauma triage and transport destination maps.
  • Geocode trauma incident sites and statewide hospitals by year.
  • Connect incident sites to hospital destinations in ARC GIS by year and trauma region.
  • Analyze transport times and patterns for each year.
  • Design report to document trauma transport patterns and compare to state legislation.
  • Develop an integrated trauma and EMS incident dataset.
  • AnalyIdentify trauma transports with delaysze transfer delays in trauma patients.
  • Identify trauma transports with delays.
  • Create GIS map documenting delays by region and/or time of year

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of one year of post-secondary education.

Student Worker Eligibility:

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be “off” for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (in progress) with a major in one of the following areas or a related field: mathematics/statistics, public health, geography, computer science, natural or social sciences.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with GIS software (preferably Arc GIC).
  • Ability to construct charts, tables and graphs depicting data.
  • Ability to interpret results.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and projects verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with SAS software or willingness to develop basic familiarity.
  • Ability to work with large, merged datasets
