Job Description & Duties:

The Townsend Lab in the Department of Forest & Wildlife Ecology uses multirotor UAVs to deploy a variety of spectrometers and imaging devices to measure plant function and health in agricultural and natural ecosystems. We are looking for students (and possibly others) with experience operating UAVs to be part of our field measurement teams during the summer field season.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with measurement technologies (such as imaging) will be helpful.
  • Possession of FAA Drone Operator license (or pilot’s license) or ability to obtain one in short order is an important requirement of this position.
  • Experience with the following:
    • UAV (fixed wing or multirotor) operation
    • Pixhawk flight controller, Ardupilot Autopilot Suite (http://ardupilot.org/ardupilot/), and Mission Planner for copters preferred

Other Information:

The position is available for the summer of 2017, and can continue into the 2017-2018 academic year. Part-time or full-time possible, but must be willing to work when weather conditions are suitable for drone operation. The position is directed at undergraduate or graduate students, but other applicants will be considered.
