An 80% visiting lecturer (instructional academic staff) is being sought for a one-year appointment in the Department of Geography and Anthropology, College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks an enthusiastic candidate with expertise in geographic information systems who is committed to teaching excellence and actively engaging undergraduates.  Candidate will join an established and well-supported geospatial program within a vibrant department.  The candidate must be able to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels (GIS I, GIS II, and GIS III) and course(s) in own specialty/interest area.  This is a one-year appointment for the 2017/2018 academic year, to begin August 21, 2017.  Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The department encourages applications from persons of groups historically underrepresented in geography.

Responsibilities:

Teach GIS courses in the Department of Geography and Anthropology and other introductory or elective course(s) based on program needs and the candidate’s specialization. The teaching load will be four courses (3 preps) each semester. Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

Earned doctorate in geography with emphasis in geographic information systems by August 21, 2017 desired, but qualified ABDs will also be considered. Evidence of successful university teaching and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

The Department of Geography and Anthropology consists of 13 full-time, 3 part-time faculty, and one geospatial technology facilitator. The department has about 140 geography majors and offers liberal arts, environmental, transnational, and geospatial analysis and technology tracks. Its geospatial curriculum serves undergraduate students from across the university. We are active in student-faculty research, and a generous endowment provides wide-ranging and creative opportunities for our students and faculty.
