Survey Crew Person

The survey technician assists the survey crew chief in performing all survey related activities and is responsible for the care and daily maintenance of survey vehicles and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Load survey truck for daily or weekly survey activities
• Unload survey truck at the end of each day’s survey activities
• Make sure the batteries for all survey equipment are charged each day
• Provide assistance to the survey crew chief in daily survey activities
• Operate survey equipment including but not limited to GNSS, Total Station and spirit levels
• Clean survey vehicles and warehouse on a bi-weekly basis

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Basic understanding of survey terminology and methodologies
• Basic understanding of survey equipment and operation including but not limited to GNSS and Total Station
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic computer skills including excel, word and internet explorer programs

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Minimal job experience. Entry level. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
• No field experience is required.
• The following experience is preferred: operating GPS receivers, operating data collectors, running Total Stations and operation and care of survey equipment.
• A valid driver’s license. A REALID compliant ID. May be required by clients to pass online courses (anti-terrorism, etc.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The majority of work will be conducted outside in all types of environments including extreme weather. The work requires physical fitness (walking, climbing, carrying equipment, digging, and line clearing).
• Some operation of power tools may be required. Working in hazardous environments such as highway and railroad right of ways, swamps, and hilly or mountainous areas is often required.
• Ability to walk, bend, balance and stand for long periods of time. Standing still, holding GPS and other equipment for extended periods. Ability to walk on uneven terrain to access remote locations up to 50% of time.
• Bending, twisting, squatting while digging holes and uncovering or placing survey monuments; includes reaching above shoulders and crawling.
• Climbing fences and other obstacles.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. up to 25% of time and over 75 lbs. occasionally.
• Visual ability for near and far sightedness with depth perception and color perception.

• The work will require extensive travel with the potential of working up to 15 continuous days
