Job Summary:

The IT Systems Team Leader and the Geographic Systems Team Leader are responsible for the policies, personnel and budget activities associated the implementation, operation, analysis, development, and user support of information systems within their respective team. The Team Leaders are expected to perform their duties in service to the entire Division and with the full scope of the Forestry program in mind. These positions serve on management teams and are expected to be active contributors.

The Team Leader positions require a strong knowledge base and experience in creating technical IT/GIS solutions; e.g. data analyses, systems, applications, training, and support consultation with internal staff, contractors and customers. In addition to supervising staff, these positions independently complete advanced analyses, feasibility, cost-benefit, systems requirements, and interpret business requirements for technical staff and contractors.

The Team Leader positions are leading members of the Division’s IT/GIS Management Team and assure that forestry GIS/IT applications meet department and enterprise standards, and set the pace for the Division through leadership, innovation, adaptation, best practices, and transfer of knowledge. These positions maintain contemporary knowledge and expertise by staying abreast of current research and maintaining an effective professional network. The customer base for this position is 450-500 Division staff, including four bureaus and three districts, as well as colleagues throughout the Department and hundreds of staff in key partner groups statewide as well as corresponding programs in the U.S. Forest Service.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Recurrent (on-going) experience with the IT application development life cycle in a  role such as project manager, analyst, architect, or data manager
  • Recurrent (on-going) experience leading a team of IT or GIS professionals  **OR** Experience leading at least one complex IT or GIS-related project.
    • A complex project is defined as having a project size over 3 people, managing staff off-site, and a customer base over 50 people.

Preferred

  • Experience related to an IT or GIS program or project that included developing strategic or operational plans and reporting accomplishments to a management team
  • Experience supervising IT or GIS staff, including establishing and adjusting work plans, providing written performance evaluations and participating in the hiring process
  • Professional experience related to GIS applications (GIS Team Leader only)
  • Professional experience related to natural resources IT applications
  • Experience managing budgets
