The incumbent serves as a cartographer in the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Digitizing Center staff located in Madison, WI and furnishes technical expertise and guidance in computer data development and cartography. The primary focus of the position is the computer development of digital soil surveys and assures the completed projects meet national cartographic standards for Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO). Develops computer resource layers using both scanned and manual methods. Provides direction on techniques and writes shellscripts and macros in various software to improve process methodology and efficiency. Provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support, as it relates to GIS processing and GIS cartographic projects to NRCS staff in Madison and in NRCS project and field offices. Supports and participates in the Civil Rights (CR) program activities.
