Paul Wolf passes away

Emeritus Professor Paul Wolf, who trained many surveyors and photogrammetrists during his career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died on March 6.

Services were held on March 11 in Middleton.

Wolf’s colleague at Wisconsin, Tom Lillesand, noted “All of us individually, the mapping science and educational community collectively, and the world generally have lost a giant of a person, friend, teacher, and mentor.”

Known as an outstanding teacher, Wolf authored several textbooks widely used in surveying and photogrammetry. Wolf reflected on his career recently in the ACSM Bulletin (May/June 2001).

Wolf’s home department, Civil and Environmental Engineering, embarked recently on a campaign to raise funds to permanently endow a professorship in his name.
