WLIA regional meeting set for June 15-17

The next Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA) regional meeting will be held at the Hayward Inn and Suites in Hayward, WI on June 15-17, 2005.

According to Scott Galetka, chair of the WLIA education committee, the major themes for meeting will include orthophotos, addressing, and wireless 911. Plans call for an introductory orthophoto workshop to be offered the afternoon of Wednesday June 15th, followed by a full day of addressing-related sessions on the 16th. Additional sessions will be offered the morning of the 17th. Registration information will be out during the second week of May– watch WLIA’s website for more information.

Several speakers are confirmed. Jim Beutelspacher, Minnesota State 911 Program Manager, will talk about their statewide wireless E-911 system; Tom Patzke from the U.S. Postal Service in Green Bay is slated to give an overview of postal data; and Jim Ward from Applied Data Consultants will discuss geocoding.

Andy Faust (North Central RPC), Andrew Jennings (East Central RPC), and Josh Schedler (Bay-Lake RPC) are leading the introductory orthophoto workshop. It will cover the basics such as how orthophotos are produced, and how accuracy and scale are determined. They will also discuss spatial resolution, and applications of orthophotography. A status update on the Northeast Wisconsin Orthophotography Consortium, and how and why it was created, is also planned.
