A book by Madison author Rhonda L. Rushing chronicles the adventures and challenges of the land surveying profession, past and present. “Lasting Impressions: A Glimpse into the Legacy of Surveying” is a compilation of stories and photos from surveyors, geocachers, history buffs and enthusiasts from across the country.

The author aptly points out among the many interesting stories that three of the four presidents immortalized on Mount Rushmore were land surveyors at one point or another in their careers. (Roosevelt was the odd man out this time.)

Published by Berntsen International, the Madison company known worldwide for producing survey markers and related equipment, the book sells for $37.95.
