US Geological Survey to hold public meetings on 3D Elevation Program

According to a Federal Register announcement, the US Geological Survey (USGS) will hold a series of public meetings on the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP). These meetings are in preparation for the upcoming release of the 3DEP Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The BAA is a competitive solicitation for the acquisition of LiDAR and derived data products under 3DEP. Federal agencies, state and local governments, tribes, academic institutions and the private sector are eligible to submit proposals.

The implementation model for 3DEP is based on “multi-agency partnership funding for acquisition, with the USGS acting in a lead program management role to facilitate planning and acquisition for the broader community, through the use of government contracts and partnership agreements.”

The primary goal of 3DEP is to collect enhanced elevation data — primarily LiDAR-derived — over the United States.

The 3DEP public meetings will introduce the BAA opportunity to stakeholders and provide a forum “to discuss elevation data collection needs of mutual interest that could be addressed by a coordinated investment.”

The meeting schedule is as follows:
