USGS publishing to be coordinated from Madison

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently announced it has appointed Greg Allord, Madison, WI, to head the agency’s national sciences publishing program, which annually produces more than 10,000 information products on natural science research and investigations.

Allord will manage a national publishing network, working with more than 20 publishing service centers across the country.  He will carry out these duties from his current USGS work location in University Research Park in Madison.  For 15 years Allord has directed the cartography and publishing program for USGS water science programs nationwide.  In this work he has been the creative force behind the online USGS Publications Warehouse, a bibliographic tool for finding USGS reports and thematic maps.  The warehouse contains references to more than 67,000 items, including numbered series begun in 1882.
