Join us online on December 6th at 10:00 a.m. for a FREE presentation on geospatial cloud computing. The State Cartographer’s Office has arranged for guest speaker Michael Terner from Applied Geographics (Boston, MA) to de-mystify some common cloud computing concepts, and describe his own experiences in migrating computing resources to the Amazon cloud.

Michael’s talk aims to provide a real-world geospatial case study of how the “cloud” is used in actual, tangible GIS operations. This includes the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) for “Infrastructure as a Service” (Iaas) in the context of GIS Web and application servers (both Open Source and Esri).

His presentation will describe both the AWS compute and storage options as well as the pricing model and cost advantages. The 25 minute presentation will be followed by Q&A from the audience.
